Taiwan: a launching pad for the Chinese conquest of Asia?

Earlier this week, about 10 Chinese fighter jets breached Taiwanese airspace. This is far from the first provocation by China, which has always claimed the island to be a part of its territory. The Taiwanese and many other governments disagree.
The threat of an invasion by China is ever-present, however, joint naval exercises by the U.S. and Pacific rim countries aim to demonstrate a commitment to protect Taiwan’s integrity.
What is the fallout of this latest incursion by the Chinese, and what is the feeling on the ground in Taiwan?
Also, what would the global implications be if China were to launch an attack?
